Overview

An industry placement is the perfect opportunity for you to explore a future career pathway in an applied field. Utilizing the theoretical knowledge gained from your studies to real-world scenarios, you will gain professional experience which will enhance your employability skills as well as deepen your understanding and application of theoretical concepts in the workplace. Completing a minimum of 50 placement hours, you will become integrated into the work environment, shadowing and interacting with professionals in their field, and taking on core responsibilities with the support of an experienced supervisor who will provide continued mentorship and support. In this work environment, you will utilise concepts and competencies gained during your degree to address regular organisational challenges and solve problems, and reflect on your personal and professional strengths and areas for development. Successful completion of the placement will increase your employability through developing important transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, time management, and problem-solving. The experience and network gained from this opportunity will enhance your CV, and will kickstart your career in a range of fields.

Method of assessment

500 words Reflection. Assessment Details: Reflective Diary worth 20%. This Assessment is Pass Compulsory.
2,000 words Portfolio . Assessment Details: E-Portfolio worth 80%. This Assessment is Pass Compulsory.

Learning outcomes

On successfully completing the module, students will be able to: 

1. Review and evaluate the procedures, processes and disciplines of working within a professional organisation.

2. Apply relevant subject-specific intellectual, problem-solving and critical thinking skills in a professional organisational setting.

3. Review, analyse, and critically reflect upon personal development across the placement in accordance with relevant employment requirements.

  1. Credit level 6. Higher level module usually taken in Stage 3 of an undergraduate degree.
  2. ECTS credits are recognised throughout the EU and allow you to transfer credit easily from one university to another.
