Overview

Research forms the cornerstone of how we solve psychological problems. You will identify a burning question from a range of psychological sub-disciplines and design a research study that addresses the question using appropriate methodologies. This module will give you the skills to conduct research and communicate research in various forms. You will have the unique opportunity to conduct your research project under the supervision of experts across a range of psychological sub-disciplines. The skills learned in this module will prepare you for the completion of your dissertation and future as psychologists.

Method of assessment

Short Writing Piece. Assessment Details: Research Proposal 1500 words worth 40%.
Presentation. Assessment Details: Individual Presentation PowerPoint slides worth 60%. This Assessment is Pass Compulsory.

Learning outcomes

On successfully completing the module, students will be able to:

1. Systematically conduct a literature review to theoretical and empirical psychological literature for the chosen dissertation topic/research question  
2. Critically evaluate literature and succinctly summarise study findings to help formulate a strongly justified hypothesis that address a chosen research question   
3. Propose novel research questions and hypotheses that build upon knowledge of psychological theory, methods, and findings.
4. Verbally and visually communicate scientific research to a lay academic audience
5. Respond to questions and comments on your work and understanding the limits of this knowledge.

  1. Credit level 7. Undergraduate or postgraduate masters level module.
  2. ECTS credits are recognised throughout the EU and allow you to transfer credit easily from one university to another.
