Overview

This module represents a work-based research project, with a focus on added value to company, which shows application of the knowledge, skills, and behaviours, gained through the course. Evidence of employer/gate keeper confirmed agreement regarding conducting the project work will be required. There is no delivered curriculum.

Contact hours

Total Hours: 300 including: “off the job” learning (approximately 209 hours) and on the job learning.
The total hours stated in this specification refer to University based learning activities. For apprenticeships they are supplemented by “on the job” work-based learning experience, which takes place beyond the off the job study hours portion of the course. For the apprenticeship Off the Job Hours for this module please refer to the training plan.

Method of assessment

Detailed Project Report 70% - 4, 000 words
Oral Presentation 30%

Both assessments must be passed to pass the module. The pass mark for this module is 40%.

Learning outcomes

The intended subject specific learning outcomes.
On successfully completing the module students will be able to:
Demonstrate initiative and personal responsibility when contributing to OR for contributing within the overall planning and execution of the business project.
Undertake a critical evaluation of any literature/data/information relevant to the project.
Systematically apply appropriate methodologies within the project and explain the associated scientific principles according to the literature and workplace context.
Critically discuss and evaluate any data generated within the scope of the project.
Produce a detailed written report and a presentation to clearly communicate the findings to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
Demonstrate the ability to work within own scope of practice and collaborate with work-based colleagues, line-managers and supervisors, and academic leads appropriately throughout whilst conducting the project work strand.


The intended generic learning outcomes.
On successfully completing the module students will be able to:
Demonstrate the development of practical/technical skills.
Analyse, evaluate and correctly interpret data.
Present and communicate data.
Obtain and use information from a variety of sources as part of self-directed learning.
Manage their time and use their organisation skills within the context of self-directed learning.

  1. Credit level 5. Intermediate level module usually taken in Stage 2 of an undergraduate degree.
  2. ECTS credits are recognised throughout the EU and allow you to transfer credit easily from one university to another.
