Overview

Dive into secondary research that sparks your curiosity and hones your academic skills. As you choose a topic you’re passionate about, learn how to unpack arguments and deepen your understanding of academic sources . This module allows you to develop and apply the learning from your Autumn term module ‘Academic Skills Development’. You will improve your research and writing skills further and refine your use of sources. While you conduct your reading and research, you’ll engage in reflective practices improving your ability to assess and evaluate your learning using various reflective models and how to present these orally. To maximise your experience, you are expected to prepare and actively participate in workshops and tutorials. These are designed to provide invaluable opportunities to seek guidance and develop your reflective and research skills.

Reflective Presentation (8-10 mins individual interview) worth 40% (pass compulsory)
Annotated Bibliography (1,200 words) worth 60% (pass compulsory)

Learning outcomes

On successfully completing the module, students will be able to:

1) Conduct independent secondary research to gather relevant academic sources and evaluate their credibility.

2) Demonstrate academic oracy, communication and presentation skills.

3) Integrate appropriate sources cohesively into an annotated bibliography .

4) Apply principles of Academic Integrity when researching and using digital tools.

5) Reflect on personal learning experiences, through the use of a range of reflective models, identify areas for improvement, and develop strategies for academic success beyond the Foundation course.
