Overview

What are the emerging and controversial topics in conservation science today? Considering these not only helps in understanding the key issues in conservation, but also helps develop conceptual and critical thinking. Topics that will be critically evaluated include: how to detect new threats to biodiversity, developing sustainable use strategies for over-exploited species, the pollinator crisis, the wildlife trade, the roles of zoos in conservation, conservation in the UK, hunting and defaunation, the impact of emerging infectious diseases, and the impacts of food production on biodiversity. Each new topic introduced through a lecture will be discussed in an interactive seminar.
