This module is an introduction to digital film-making. Students learn the creative and technical skills in making a short film, whilst working as a member of a production team.

Online Research Journal (35%) – approx. 3000 words
Production Plan (15%) – 4-8 pages (group project – individually assessed)
Project (50%) – 3-4 minute film (group project – individually assessed)

Learning outcomes

The intended subject specific learning outcomes. On successfully completing the module students will be able to:
1. Have an understanding of the general theoretical and historical principles of moving image.
2. Develop an appreciation of the aesthetic, conceptual and technical skills for making a short film.
3. Experience collaborative teamwork while demonstrating a safe and competent use of equipment.

The intended generic learning outcomes. On successfully completing the module students will be able to:
1. Use Information and Communication Technology
2. Develop personal and interpersonal skills, work as a member of a team
3. Communicate effectively in media
4. Learn effectively for the purpose of continuing professional development
5. Develop ability for working in flexible, creative and independent ways and for critical thinking, reasoning and reflection
6. Develop ability to organise and manage time and resources within an individual project or a group project.
