Your preparation for an engineering degree continues in this module. You will develop further knowledge and new problem-solving skills relevant to both mechanical and electrical engineering. This will include topics in alternating current (a.c.) circuits, engineering electromagnetism, mechanical oscillations and vibrations and rotating mechanical systems. Further laboratory work will reinforce this knowledge.
Lecture 39, Laboratories 8, Workshops (Examples Classes) 6, Revision class 3
Closed book exam (2 hours) worth 60%.
4 x laboratory experiments and reports (10% each) worth 40%. This Assessment is Pass Compulsory.
Reassessment Method: Like-for-like
On successfully completing the module, students will be able to:
1) understand and apply the laws of electromagnetism
2) understand and apply simple AC circuit principles
3) understand and apply further knowledge in mechanical systems
4) demonstrate an ability to use measurement equipment to obtain results from engineering experiments and to analyse and interpret the results.
