How can you gain a deeper understanding of the foundations of western civilisation, literature, culture and language? How can you improve your critical thinking, analytical skills, and problem solving? Now that you’ve acquired a foundation in ancient Greek/Latin, you are able to go beyond the fundamentals of grammar and complex sentence structure. This module enhances your ability to read, comprehend, and translate passages of ancient Greek/Latin being able to now study a much broader selection of ancient texts than Intermediate Ancient Languages 1. This knowledge will enrich your understanding of the key themes and more complex ideas in the texts. The skills you acquired in Intermediate Ancient Languages 1 are put into action, allowing you to not only read the authors who built the foundations of the western literary canon, but equip you to succeed in the study of a diverse body of disciplines, such as coding and computer programming, scientific, legal or medical careers.

Take home test, 1,500 words (50%).
Homework assessments, 4 x 250 words each (50%).

On successfully completing the module, students will be able to:
1. Appraise their knowledge and critical understanding of the principles of ancient Greek/ Latin through reading, translation, and use of appropriate translation tools.
2. Assess and evaluate the chosen texts within their literary and cultural context.
3. Debate the problems pertaining to the study of ancient texts, including questions of authorship, genre, and theme.
4. Apply their knowledge of Greek/Latin grammar and semantics to their interpretations of the texts.
5. Connect the semantic range of individual ancient Greek/Latin words with their application to the modern day.
