Overview

Embark on a thrilling journey to become a skilled and forward-thinking data expert. Learn to unleash the power of data and artificial intelligence for a competitive edge in the world of big data analytics.
You will not only critically examine the theoretical foundations behind big data analytics, text mining, and social media data mining, but also learn to create impactful data visualisations and explore real-world applications addressing current industry challenges.
In addition you will develop advanced practical skills via hands-on experience with SQL, NoSQL databases, Apache Spark, and Python which will advanceyour expertise to solve complex business problems. The ultimate aim is to give you the knowledge and skills to become a data-driven leader capable of leveraging big data for significant business value.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:
Develop an advanced conceptual understanding of big data analytics and visualisation, as well as database management and its connections with big data analytics.
Critically apply big data techniques with cutting-edge tools like Apache Spark and Python.
Critically evalauate current practice andlearn to propose sutaibale sloutions on how to safeguard sensitive information, comply with regulations, and conduct big data analytics ethically, responsibly and sustainably.
Critically evaluate how big data analytics enables managers and executives to elevate operational, social, and financial performance, and to create novel business development.
