Overview

How do multinational organizations make big-picture decisions about managing their global portfolios? How do they gain sustained advantage over their competitors? You will learn about how multinational enterprises design and manage their operations across borders handling the tensions between their headquarters and their subsidiaries in order to get results on a global scale. Gain insight into strategic decision-making by looking at internationalization strategies, managing strategic alliances and mergers and acquisitions, while also considering problems in risk management, knowledge creation, divestment, and corporate social responsibility on a global scale. Round out your degree by understanding international business in a strategic way while mastering sought after communication skills through the support provided for assessments on the module.

Learning outcomes

On successfully completing the module, students will be able to: 

Systematically understand and examine advanced theories, tools and concepts in the field of study global strategic management given the uncertainty of the global business environment

Critically evaluate the implications of different organisational and environmental contexts for the successful implementation of business and corporate strategy of globally operating firms.
Conduct a full strategic analysis of a real-life organisation/business, applying a range of tools and frameworks to link theory to practice.
Take responsibility for their own learning and articulate solutions in the context of the disciplinary discussions and decisions.
