Keen to gain practical experience in a professional industry setting? Thinking about how to start building professional networks beyond university? Interested in using self-reflection in practical ways towards building your future career? Then this module is the right choice for you.
In this module you will engage in a placement/internship that will be relevant to your subject of study or to a career you might wish to pursue upon graduation. In addition to your placement, through a series of seminars you will learn about employability in the creative arts industries and enhance your commercial awareness of what is needed in order to secure a job in this area. You will be supported in learning how to approach prospective employers, tailor CVs, evaluate job descriptions, and promote yourself in a professional context, preparing you for life after university. You will also explore the value of your work placement experience through reflection and critical analysis.
Lecture: 16 hours
Work-based learning: 105 hours
Main Assessment Methods:
Journal.
Assessment Details: Reflective work placement Report (2000 words). Worth 80%.
Presentation.
Assessment Details: 10 minute presentation plus presentation slides.
Individual Presentation. Worth 20%.
Reassessment Method:
Like-for-like Including, for the practical component, a recorded presentation.
On successfully completing the module, students will be able to:
1) Analyse a range of key issues faced by creative industries in the UK and internationally, by drawing on a systematic understanding of these issues in relation to a work placement.
2) Interpret tasks, generate solutions, and assess their effectiveness in a professional work context.
3) Reflect on professional workplace experiences by integrating research and analytical skills with self-reflexive practice.
4) Investigate and design ways of communicating effectively and professionally in industry contexts.
