About

Dr Ali Khan is an Assistant Lecturer in the School of Computing at the University of Kent. He recently completed his PhD in Electronic Engineering, at the University of Kent, which was co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Interreg VA FCE ADAPT project, and the Interreg VA 2 Seas MOTION and H4DC projects. His research focused on Light Field imaging technology and its applications in Virtual Reality. His doctoral work involved developing algorithms for depth reconstruction, calibration and aberration correction, and the translation of LF data into immersive VR content.
Alongside his PhD research, Dr. Khan has contributed to several projects in robotics, human augmentation, and assistive technologies. These include the Mechanised Orthosis for Children with Neurological Disorders (MOTION) project, where he developed smart wearable jackets for children’s health monitoring during exoskeleton operations, and a Medical Research Council (MRC) project, where he reconfigured powered wheelchairs with adaptive reconfiguration capabilities for clinical trials. His research demonstrates interdisciplinary expertise across imaging, computer vision, human–computer interaction, robotics, and assistive systems.
He has also worked as a demonstrator within the School of Engineering, supporting undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across a range of engineering modules.
Dr. Khan earned his MSc in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, Pakistan, and his BS in Computer Engineering from COMSATS University, Attock, Pakistan.
