The documentary challenges prejudices about life in a rural environment. The film is based in small agricultural communities in Venezuela’s Andes region where suicides have become everyday. The film explores different cases and the silence surrounding the issue. It says several rural communities in Latin America seem to ignore a suicide ‘outbreak’ probably associated with the contradictions of cultural globalisation.
Admission is free and the event is open to all. The screening is from 4pm on Wednesday, 9 December. For further information contact Caroline Bennett, cb500@kent.ac.uk
