GCHQ's Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research Certificate was accepted by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dame Julia Goodfellow.
The certificate recognises the quality of research at Kent’s Interdisciplinary Research Centre in Cyber Security and the projects led by Professor Andy King and Dr Eerke Boiten.
Ed Vaizey MP, Minister for Culture & Digital Economy, made the presentation to Dame Julia at a London cyber security event. The audience consisted of cyber security and information assurance leaders from central government, the wider public sector, industry and academia.
The University has been designated as an Academic Centre of Excellence for Cyber Security Research (ACEs-CSR) under a scheme which is jointly sponsored by GCHQ and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). It aims to provide researchers at universities with better understanding of the range of cyber security problems faced by government and business.
Kent’s recognition as an ACE-CSR has led to increased engagement of the Kent cyber security centre with EPSRC, GCHQ, other government organisations, and the 12 other ACE-CSRs. It includes the award of a grant from EPSRC of around £10k per year to support ACE-related activities.
