Family 1: John and Joan Andrew

In 1705 John Ugler marries Joan Andrew  in Alwington. Which John is this?

  1. One possibility is John 1679 (from Okehampton - Family 1). He would be a close contemporary of Joan who may well have been born in Littleham, very close to Alwingtonin in 1681 - there is an IGI record for Jone Andra, daughter of James.
  2. An alternative is John 1666, the son of Richard and Elizabeth Braund from Marhamchurch - this speculation is based on the fact that the family move back to Marhamchurch.

Their sons are born in Alwington but the family may move to Marhamchurch: John dies there in 1740 - there is a will in the Cornish Record Offfice and an A2A record talking of '... All the goods of John Uglow deceased, husband of Joan...' dated 3rd May 1740. Joan survives until 1770

  • son Richard 1707 born in Alwington. He is the most likely candidate to marry Mary Richards in Bideford in 1730 (Family 1 - Bideford)

  • son John 1712 born in Alwington.
