The university-recommended tool for process mapping. Use Draw.IO online editor for creating and sharing diagrams including flowcharts, process maps, Gantt charts, organisational charts, Venn diagrams, floor plans, and more.

Functionality

  • Draw.IO is an open-source online platform.
  • Draw.IO is an online diagramming software, which allows staff and students to easily create diagrams and infographics. Draw.IO also supports specialist notations and formats including Ishikawa (fishbone) diagrams, UML and BPMN 2.0.
  • Draw.IO is integrated with Microsoft Teams, and can be added in Teams for staff to collaborate on diagrams.

Help & how to get started

  • To get started, go to https://www.drawio.com/
  • You will be prompted to select a storage platform. To meet the university security requirements and connect to the university SSO login, it is important to select OneDrive as your storage option, and to only save diagrams to OneDrive.
  • You will be prompted to Authorise the app in OneDrive. Select “Authorize” and then complete sign-in as normal with your university email and password.
  • When creating a new diagram, you will be asked whether you would like to save to your “Root Folder” (the main area in OneDrive) or select a folder in your OneDrive.
  • For help in getting started, please see the Draw.IO documentation pages. Please note that some of the documentation refers to Confluence (Atlassian Confluence Cloud), which is the paid/subscription version of Draw.IO. Please disregard any reference to Confluence.

  • The free version of Draw.IO (the online editor) is open source and can be used for work and personal usage. Please view the Draw.IO terms of use for more information.
  • If linking Draw.IO to OneDrive, you will benefit from the security provisions provided by Microsoft. However, this will not apply if selecting any of the other storage options available. Even when saving your work to OneDrive, we advise all students and staff to consider data protection before sharing diagrams, and to not include any sensitive or protected personal data when using Draw.IO.

The University of Kent uses Google Analytics to track how our Software Finder tool is being used. We do not share this data with any third parties.

While we recommend various software tools that may be helpful for both students and staff, it's important for individuals to review the Terms and Conditions of any software they choose to install, especially regarding how it may affect their privacy and personal data.
