Lord Ricketts: ‘What’s happening to our world?’

Lord Peter Ricketts lecture on 6 February considered the range of areas that contributed to making 2016 a challenging year.

On a global level, 2016 was a disruptive and changing year not only in the political world, but across the globe with unprecedented change in two of the world’s major economies.

As a former diplomat with 40 years experience, Lord Peter Ricketts offered an insider perspective in a Vice-Chancellor’s lecture which took place in Grimond Lecture Theatre 1 on Monday 6 February on the Canterbury campus at 18.00. It was free and open to all with parking free on campus after 17.00.

Lord Ricketts previously worked with David Cameron in Downing Street and his career has involved him in the handling of many international crises and the coordination of policy in the foreign affairs, defence and security fields. In 2010, the Prime Minister asked him to become the British Government’s first National Security Adviser.

He is an Honorary Graduate of the University of Kent, and was a regular visitor to the University’s Paris centre.
