Clearing 2023: Finding your home at Kent

Katherine Moss

Applying to University through clearing can be stressful – not least because of worrying about last minute planning for where you’ll live.

Luckily, at Kent, we have you covered.

For the last few years we have offered a guarantee of accommodation to all first years who apply by 30 June, as well as to the first 500 clearing applicants who accept an offer of accommodation. This year, we’ll guarantee accommodation at Canterbury for all Clearing Applicants who confirm acceptance of their offer on UCAS Hub by 8pm Friday 18 August and guarantee accommodation at Medway for all Clearing applicants.

All students living in campus accommodation will benefit from free gym membership – something all first years will get wherever they chose to live.  Living in campus accommodation also includes all utility bills, Wi-Fi and personal possessions insurance – even more help with planning your budgets.

There is a good supply of privately owned and purpose-built student accommodation in the city where a lot of second and third years choose to live, and they can also choose to apply for a room on our Medway campus in any year of study, which is a free shuttle bus ride away.

Some students coming to Kent through Clearing may choose to live at home. This can help them save money and remove some of the worry about finding a room – and they can still experience everything about student life, as third year student Jade explains:

‘The course at Kent was so perfect for me that I couldn’t ignore it!  Living at home, I knew I would have to worry less about the cost of living and could focus more time on my work. I was a bit nervous that I wouldn’t get the full experience staying at home, but after three years I now know there was nothing to worry about!

‘I didn’t feel any different to my classmates while living at home. I still went out with my friends, supported Team Kent at Varsity matches, hired the sports facilities to play games, had study sessions with classmates, and went to societies in the evenings!’
