Mechanical maintenance

Colin Flux is the Mechanical Manager and is responsible for maintaining all mechanical services across the campus. Estates employs a team consisting of eight Registered Gas Fitters, three Plumbers, one Fitter/Welder, five Maintenance Assistants and one Apprentice to maintain and repair a large variety of mechanical services.

Thousands of jobs are attended each year which include:

  • Boiler breakdowns
  • Water leaks
  • Blocked toilets/sinks/drains
  • Oven/hob faults

All of our Gas Fitters are registered Gas Safety Engineers and can be found on the Gas Safe Register website.

Aside from performing reactive maintenace, a comprehensive preventative maintenance schedule and monitoring of the Building Management System (heating & air ventilation) is undertaken.

General fabrication and welding duties are carried out in our workshop which is equipped with milling and turning facilities.

The Mechanical department operates a 24/7 emergency call out service. In the event of a mechnical emergency, outside of normal working hours (08:00 - 16:30), contact Campus Watch (3300) who will make the necessary arrangements for the duty fitter to attend.

Specialised contractors are used for certain tasks including; unblocking drains, repairing water boilers, generators and pumps.

Reporting defects

Building defects should be reported through our online defect report page or via telephone to Estates Customer Services (16666).

All defects are issued with a priority according to our Service Level Statement.
