Regulatory Information

The Estates Department is responsible for compliance and statutory inspections in line with current legislation and regulations. Tim Dickson oversees the process which involves carrying out routine inspections on the following appliances, equipment and services. (This list is by no means exhaustive but represents the majority of areas covered).

  • Lifts & lifting equipment
  • Lightening protection
  • Electrical appliance and fixed wire testing
  • Water hygiene
  • Automatic doors
  • Fire alarms
  • Pressure systems
  • Emergency lights & lift lighting
  • Boiler gas safety
  • Fire doors & fire signage
  • Fire extinguishers

External contractors are appointed to carryout a number of inspections. We employee a team consisting of two qualified portable appliance testers and three staff trained to L8 standards, who carry out all portable appliance testing and water hygiene inspections across the campus.

Please note: Only University-owned items will be tested for electrical safety.
