Professor Ole Döring (Ph.D. habil.) is a German Philosopher and Sinologist. He started his work in Asia as a research scholar at Hong Kong University in 1996. Since then, he has taught at several universities, conducted research all over the continent, and organised many China-European conferences and training courses. He has received honorable appointments from Shanghai National Human Genome Center (2000), Dalian Medical University (2001), Changsha Shifan Daxue (2004); in 2002, he was elected Regional Representative in Western Europe for the Asian Bioethics Association (ABA). In 2009, he received as the first European an award from the Journal „Yixue yu Zhexue“ (Medicine and Philosophy) for his contribution to the advancement of ethics in medicine in China. His current research is focused on “Integrity and Adherence in Science and Medicine”, “Genetic Information: Epistemic, Organisational and Ethical Frameworks”, “Caring for the Elderly: Cultural Standards and Social Conditions for best Practice”, and a „Curriculum for Chinese Philosophy“. His vast work is published widely. Ole Döring also plays an active role in engaging science-society interaction and has served as an advisor for several company and governmental bodies.
