One of the most iconic photographs of the early days of the University is of a group of students from the first intake carefully posed in Eliot cloisters garden. During the 1960s, the garden was used for theatrical productions, including Shakespearean plays. In the anniversary year, the garden was redesigned and refurbished to make it a tranquil spot for study, quiet contemplation, relaxation, and as an attractive venue for events.
