Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do as an organisation.

Operationally, the Estates department has prime responsibility for delivering the objectives of the Environment Policy and the Estates Plan specifically sets out how we will achieve these objectives.

Has the University measured its carbon footprint?

The University's carbon footprint for 2006-07 was 15,217 tCO2. This includes the CO2 emissions arising from all gas, oil and electricity used by the University for heating, hot water, catering, air conditioning, power and lighting. It also includes emissions from the University of Kent's buildings at Medway, but does not include emissions arising from University vehicles, grounds maintenance machinery or shared buildings at Medway. The University has also taken a number of initiatives to reduce its impact on the environment including appointing a member of staff to focus on sustainability/carbon management issues.
