The Centre for Philanthropy is part of the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research (SSPSSR) at the University of Kent.
The Centre conducts research into all aspects of philanthropy, which we define as the giving of both time and of money. Research projects completed include a study of how donors choose charities, perceptions of social justice philanthropy, an annual report on million pound donors, a report on philanthropic giving for research to European Universities and a book on why rich people give. Current research projects include a study of the profession of fundraising, a comparison of giving circles in the UK and the USA, an evaluation of endowment building by heritage organisations and a project on patterns of engagement in the giving of time and money across the lifecourse.
