Open Day Parking for Staff, Students & Visitors - Wednesday 16 September 2015

We are expecting in excess of 4000 visitors to this event. Enrolment Management Services and the Estates Department are working together to limit the disruption this will cause. Parking will be restrictive on this day and we ask for you to consider alternative travel.

Open Days are essential recruitment events for the University. The September Open Day is particularly important as it targets those seeking to make early applications and they tend to be highly qualified individuals.

This means that half of the Canterbury campus parking bays will be used to assist with Open Day visitor parking. Please note car park closures do not affect any person who requires use of an accessible bay and has a Blue Badge or a University of Kent Pink 'A' permit.

Car Park closures to assist with this event include:

  • All Park Wood Courts car park
  • Giles Lane Blue Zone car park
  • Oaks (Blean) car park

All other car parks will be available for staff, student and contractor parking with a University of Kent permit to park (Blue zone permit holders can use Pink Zone car parks on this day). Central Visitors pay and display car park will be available for all other visitors. Click here to view campus map detailing car parks closures.

As parking will be restricted it would be very helpful if staff could assist by making alternative travel arrangements and, where possible, adopt one of the following;

PLEASE NOTE: We suggest you use the Free Park & Ride service as there is less parking available for staff than in previous years.

Public Transport

    • Unibus travels every 15 minutes to and from Canterbury Bus Station on this day.
    • Number 4 4A 4B 4X Triangle service route Canterbury - University - Whitstable - Herne Bay - Sturry - Canterbury.
    • Number 6 6A 6B 6X Triangle service route Canterbury - Sturry - Herne Bay - Whitstable - University – Canterbury.
    • Use Stagecoach journey planner to assist with bus timetable.
    • Plan your journey by train with national rail.  Don’t forget the Plus Bus ticket will be cheaper than a Uniday to travel by bus from the train station.

Don't forget to plan your journey.

Work from Home

Managers are asked to encourage staff to respond positively to the impact of the open day and, where it is possible to, allow relevant staff to work from home

Please ensure that you have arranged your travel prior to the day as it will be difficult for security and traffic marshals to advise you on the day, as they will need to ensure that traffic continues to move at all times in order to minimise congestion and ensure everyone's safety.
