Training Events & Conferences

Due to the pandemic, training is currently being run on-line. So far, we have run several SOTSEC-ID training events on line and one risk assessment training event on-line. Delegates have been very positive about these and we have used feedback from delegates to improve the experience of the training. We hope to be able to return to running face to face training in the future.

SOTSEC-ID

SOTSEC-ID regularly arranges training, seminars and conferences on cognitive behaviour group treatment approaches for sex offenders and related topics.

We have now set new dates for the SOTSEC-ID facilitator training, which will be on-line: January 26th, 27th and 28th 2022. If you are a therapist planning to offer the SOTSEC-ID model of treatment you must undertake this training. It will entitle you to a treatment manual.

Please note that on this occasion, this training is ONLY for those who are taking part in the HaSB-IDD trial. It is free. If you wish your Trust to take part, please email g.h.murphy@kent.ac.uk

If you know your Trust has already agreed to take part, please book your place through our assistant Josie Collins – she is on email sotsec@kent.ac.uk.

Keep Safe

The next Keep Safe training will be online across 3 separate days: 20th, 27th January and 3rd February 2022 each from 10-3.00.

There will also be 4 x 90 minute follow-up group consultation sessions: 10-11.30am on Tuesday 10th May, Thursday 15th September, Tuesday 13th December 2022, and Thursday 16th March 2023.

Further information and a booking form can be found here. Please note the Be Safe Service and their NHS Trust, AWP, are organising the training so the form when complete should be sent to Course Administrator: learninganddevelopment.awp@nhs.net.

Please email Josie Collins our assistant on sotsec@kent.ac.uk if you want to be added to our email list for information of other forthcoming Keep Safe training days, and for ‘train the trainers’ events for those already trained in Keep Safe and experienced in its delivery.

Risk assessment training: START & ARMIDILO

The Short Term Assessment of Risk and Treatability (START) provides a Structured Professional Judgement tool for the assessment of strength and vulnerability across twenty dynamic risk factors, in addition to a carefully developed summary sheet which includes a number of other features and risk estimates to facilitate professional discussion and decision making in risk decisions.

ARMIDILO-S is a dynamic assessment of risk and manageability in individuals with borderline or mild intellectual disabilities who have displayed sexually offensive behaviours. The instrument considers both client factors, such as coping skills, impulsivity and substance abuse, as well as environmental factors, in the assessment.

Delegates should have some previous experience with other risk assessment tools such as the HCR-20 and professional experience within intellectual disability services for both of these days.

Training days: April 7th & 8th 2022, on-line. Please email Josie Collins our assistant on sotsec@kent.ac.uk if you want further details or to book onto the training. You do not have to be taking part in the HaSB-IDD trial for this training.
