School of Economics and further teaching facilities

The Kennedy building was completed in April 2019 and provides facilities for the School of Economics and additional timetabled teaching rooms. The 4,000m² building is located on the site of the existing Kent Research and Development Centre (KRDC) building with Willmott Dixon appointed as main contractor through the 'Scape' Framework. The project commenced in 2017 with the demolition of the KRDC building and completed in April 2019, welcoming the first students and staff in June 2019. Project value £18.8m.

This building is named after Charles Kennedy, the first Professor of Economic Theory at the University of Kent, appointed in 1966.  He was one of the most distinguished economic theorists of his generation.  He died in 1997, aged 74.

This is the first University building to utilize a cross-laminated timber and steel structure, achieving a BREEAM excellent environmental rating.
