Ingram Building over-cladding

The interior of the Ingram building has been extensively modernised over the last 5 years and functions reasonably well for its age and intended use. However, the exterior of the building looked tired and dated and did not perform as well. In undertaking this work the University has created a prominent facade that will be modernised, dynamic and innovative, which in turn will complement the level of teaching and expertise that will be experienced within the building. By enclosing the fabric of the building and replacing the windows, significant improvement will be made to the energy efficiency of the building and improve environmental working conditions for the users.

Over-cladding will significantly extend the operational economic life of the Ingram building, thus avoiding a need to replace the current building in the medium term. It is anticipated that the economic life of the external façade would be extended for a further 50-60 years.

The £2.6m contract with d+b facades, a specialist in the over-cladding market, was undertaken during 2015 and completed in November. As part of the drive towards energy efficiency, the roof was also insulated and renewed.
