Centre for Film and Media Research

After completing my undergraduate studies in Film & Italian at the University of Kent, I pursued graduate studies in Film Archiving at the University of East Anglia and obtained a PhD in Italian film from the University of Reading. I have held positions in both film studies and modern languages at the Universities of Leeds, St Andrews and Birmingham before returning to Kent to take up my current position in 2015.

I have also worked in both the National Film and Television Archive and the Filmographic Department of the British Film Institute and as theatre manager of the Reading Film Theatre, and have spent several years living and working in Italy, in both Pisa and Naples.

I am one of the founding members of the British Association of Film, Television and Screen Studies and I sit on the editorial boards of the Cine-Excess journal and the Journal of Italian Cinema and Media Studies, as well as the executive committee of the Centre for Film and Media Research at the University of Kent. I am also joint series editor of the book series ‘Remapping World Cinema’, forthcoming from Routledge in 2017 and managing editor of the journal Film Studies
