Technology Enhanced Learning

Flexible and Distance Learning

If you are considering creating or adapting a module or programme for delivery at a distance, or as a 'blend' with some distance delivery, there are many issues of which to be aware, including:

  • Technical issues
  • Legal requirements
  • Designing the student experience
  • Running your module/programme
  • Quality

Please consult your Faculty Learning Technologist (FLT) or Distance Learning Technologist at an early stage in the process of your course redesign, as they may be able to save you time and unnecessary work, and will help you consider all the aspects and the potential costs of developing and running your course. This process may be useful in aiding you to develop your Business Plan for EG approval (if it is required).

Postgraduate Taught Distance Learning Pilot Project (PGT DL)

The Graduate School and Unit for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (UELT) have committed to supporting schools in developing taught postgraduate modules and programmes which will be delivered part-time via blended and distance learning. The PGT DL Pilot project started in August 2012 and aims to demonstrate effective development and delivery.

Kent is able to offer an increasing number of postgraduate qualifications in alternative delivery formats, including distance learning and blended learning. The first full programme developed as part of the PGT DL Pilot is the MA Advanced Child Protection, which launched in January 2013. A further full Masters programme, the MA Philanthropic Studies, is due to launch in September 2016.

If you would like to be involved in the PGT DL Pilot, or would like any further information, please contact Mark O'Connor (Distance Learning Technologist).
