John Matthews

University Learning Technologist

Unit for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (UELT)

John joined the University in September 2014, having worked in a training role in London for over a decade.

Keynes, Room D2.1

John came to the University of Kent following 11 years at Birkbeck, where he worked as their IT trainer. That job involved looking after staff and students in an institution where it is impossible to tell to which group an individual belongs by looking at them, dealing a daily reminder to not judge a book by its cover. Previously he was an IT generalist with responsibility for the DLHE at the Careers Services of the University of Reading and of Leeds, which has given him a lifelong appreciation for data and dislike of seeing it misused.
Outside work, John can be found either exploring Kent’s roads on a bike, its footpaths on the run or with his head in a book, recovering.
