Manual contractors

For the purpose of parking, contractors are classed as manual contractors who require parking close to their vehicle for heavy tools and equipment to complete works on campus. Manual contractors can apply for a contractor parking permit. Please arrange an e-permit for all other contractors, see visitor parking.

If your manual contractor is coming to campus less than 4 times a month they are classed as an occasional contractor. If they are coming more than 4 times a month or 24 times a year, they are classed as a regular contractor.

Occasional manual contractor (less than 4 times a month)

  • Please direct your occasional manual contractors to the Security and Transport Centre. They can sign in on the computers in the reception area by selecting "I need a parking permit and ID" and completing the instructions on screen.
  • A permit and ID will then be printed out for your contractor, the permit must be displayed in their windscreen.
  • See below for where your contractors can park with this permit.
  • Contractors can park in the 15 minute bays located behind Grimond while they sign in.
  • Please note, if the contractor selects an end of week permit, they are still required to sign in and out each day as a "permit holder". This can be done in the Security and Transport Centre, Estates general office reception or on a mobile device.

Regular manual contractor (more than 4 times a month)

  • Regular manual contractors can apply for a pink and blue permit to park that is stamped with "Estates" to differentiate it from other permits.
  • See below for where your contractors can park with this permit.
  • An ID card will also be requested with the permit so your contractor does not need to get an ID pass printed each day.
  • Please remember that although the contractor will have a printed permit and ID card, they will still need to sign in as a "permit holder" to show they are on campus. This can be done at the Security and Transport Centre, Estates general reception or on a mobile device.
  • Price: £30/ academic year (pro rata) or £4/month.
  • Download application form and ensure it has been signed appropriately before it is returned to the Transport Team.

Where can manual contractors park on campus?

Manual contractors with one of the above permits can park in the pink and blue zones on campus and may temporarily park outside of a parking bay if required for maintenance works. They must not park in the visitor only car parks (Central P&D and Sports Centre P&D) or hatched areas or block access unless prior permission has been given by the security or transport manager. If unsure of where to park, please contact the Transport Team.

Any person who brings a vehicle on to the University private land and car parks agrees to abide by the Regulations for the Management of Traffic at the University of Kent for Staff, Students and Other Persons.
