Kent Student Awards

2020 winners

The Kent Student Awards 2020 winners were announced on Monday 20 July.

Nearly 100 nominations were received across 9 categories, and there was an outstanding range of work this year. Karen Cox (Vice President and Chancellor) and Sasha Langeveldt (Kent Union President, 2019/20) congratulated all the finalists on their hard work and announced the winners in a video shared on social media on Monday 20 July 2020.

The winners of the prestigious Student of the Year and Group of the Year awards were chosen and announced by the University's Chancellor, Gavin Esler, from among the winners of the other awards.

  • Student of the Year

The 2020 Student of the Year is Paul-Georg Ender, a winner in the Mike Oliver Award for Improving Accessibility. Paul-Georg impressed the judges with his outstanding commitment and initiative to undertaking crucial work on digital and physical accessibility, which has included initiating a project to create a 3D tactile map of campus, giving feedback on University software and setting up communications channels to publicise repair work on campus to visually impaired visitors.

  • Group of the Year

This year's Group of the Year is the Islamic Society, who were winners in the Outstanding Contribution to Fundraising category. The judges admired the hard work and outstanding results put in by the group, raising over £14,000 this year to fund international projects including healthcare, education and emergency aid by organising numerous events and their annual Charity Dinner.
