Firstly - do you feel ok?
Are you and your housemates physically well? It is very important you look after yourselves and stay as healthy as you can during this time.
If you have any concerns, the University has a Nursing Service on the Canterbury campus which provides a 24/7 service to our students, so you can contact them anytime if you are worried.
For those of you with existing medical conditions, most chemists now offer a delivery service. If you do need to collect your prescription, we can help with this – just let us know.
Support is available for students based at both our Canterbury and Medway campuses. Please contact us if you have any difficulty getting hold of essential items you need.
Food and shopping
We know you might not easily be able to access food and other items you need. The information below should help.
Many major supermarkets provide delivery or click and collect services – below are some sites you might find useful.
Because of the pandemic, you need to book delivery slots as early as you can. We would recommend registering with your chosen supermarket now. This will mean you can regularly check on the availability of slots and can pre-book one should you need it.
If delivery slots aren’t available, you could try click and collect however this will require a car in most cases. A friend in the same accommodation block can collect your shopping for you. Any items being dropped off for you need to be taken to your flat door and left there. Your deliverer must step back from the door and not make contact with you.
Did you know we have recruited a bank of student helpers to help other students during self-isolation? If you can’t find someone to help with your shopping, email us us with your delivery slot (preferably between 9am and 2.30pm) and we can help.
If you are based at Pier Quays in Medway, please contact your team at Pier Quays who can support with shopping and medicine deliveries. They can deliver items to your door so you don’t need to leave your flat.
Please remember that if you use a shared kitchen, a kitchen rota is available so you can book time in your shared space. Please make sure you clean shared spaces thoroughly before and after you have used them.
For those of you self-isolating in catered accommodation, we will deliver your food to your flat for you. Please order your food choices by midday for the following day, or you can order further ahead than this if you’re feeling particularly organised!
Once you have informed the University that you are needing to self-isolate, you will be sent a link to our online ordering system to select your food choices and let us know if you have any dietary requirements.
If you have purchased a flex-catering package, please let us know and we will contact you to discuss your options.
If you have any questions, please contact us and we will be happy to help you.
Laundry, bedding and cleaning
Please remember you can’t use the laundrette whilst you are self-isolating, however Pressing Matters offers a laundry collection, wash and delivery service for campus residents. You need to make sure any laundry that you send has been quarantined for 72 hours before collection. If you need any help organising this, just let us know and we can help you.
Alternatively, if you would like fresh bedding and towels, we can loan these to you. There will be a £5 charge to cover the laundering of these items once you have finished your isolation, which can be added to your student accommodation account. Email us and let us know if you would like us to deliver a linen pack to you.
You should already have lots of cleaning materials in your accommodation. If you need more just tell us and we can deliver some to you.
Please leave your rubbish outside the door of your flat. Our housekeeping team will collect this regularly. Please remember that if you have tested positive for Covid-19 you must quarantine your rubbish for 72 hours first.
Parcels and mail
We understand how important it is for you to receive your mail and parcels from friends and family during this time. You might also have purchased something online to support your studies, or to help get you through the next 10 days!
If you are expecting a parcel that you need during self-isolation, please let us know and with the support of our student helpers we can ensure this reaches you by the next working day. All non-urgent parcels will be held safely by your reception team until your self-isolation is over and you are able to collect them yourself.
Reception opening hours and contact details are available.
In an emergency
In the event of a fire evacuation, please use a face covering, evacuate the building and stand apart from other students at the muster point. Directions to the muster point are located on the back of your bedroom door.
If you have an urgent fault in your accommodation or you need out-of-hours or emergency assistance, call Campus Security on +44 (0)1227 823300 (for emergencies only, call +44 (0)1227 823333), or you can email our Security team. Please let Campus Security know that you are self-isolating if/when you call them.
If a member of Housekeeping, Estates maintenance or Campus Security needs to come into your accommodation, please make sure you tell them you are self-isolating.
