On-campus residents

As per the latest government advice, from 17.00 on Tuesday 24 March 2020, University buildings will be fully closed on the Canterbury and Medway campuses. For those students who need to stay with us, on-campus accommodation remains open and takeaway food will be available.

While all teaching will now take place remotely, we will continue to provide the core services needed to support students who are still on campus.

UPDATED 11.45 21 May: For those students who need to stay with us, campus accommodation remains open at Canterbury and Pier Quays (formally Liberty Quays) at Medway. 


Rutherford Dining Hall remains open for takeaways on the Canterbury campus. 

The Plaza Co-Op remains open.

The Food Bank is open on Wednesday’s 12.00-16.00 from the Mandela Student Centre. 

Kent Union

The Student Advice Centre are working remotely and can be contacted on 01227 827724 or advice@kent.ac.uk. Welfare and Health services also continue to be provided.  

The Oaks Nursery is now closed until further notice.

Kent Union will continue to support those on campus even though they are working remotely. If you  have any ideas or feedback on further support you need you can email kentunion@kent.ac.uk

Campus Shuttle: The shuttle will not be operating during the Summer term.

You can still contact Campus Security, who remain 24/7, via the SafeZone app

Printers are available in the corridors outside the study hubs in Rutherford and Eliot colleges.

UPDATED 14.45 25 March: There are three Amazon locker stations at the Canterbury campus; Keynes College (T Block), Darwin College (next to Darwin Houses) and Park Wood (next to Woody’s). You can add these lockers as your delivery address when placing your order.

There are no Amazon lockers at Medway. Please only order post/parcels as usual to Pier Quays (formally Liberty Quays) reception, ideally essential items only.

UPDATED 14.45 25 March: The Transport Team are available from 8.30-17.00 Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and 8.30-15.00 on Tuesdays and can answer all enquiries via email TransportTeam@kent.ac.uk or telephone on 01227 823609. UPDATED 14.45 25 March: There are still security staff on both campuses, 24/7. They can be contacted on 01227 823300. For emergencies contact them on 01227 823333. The number is the same for both campuses. Staffing numbers are being affected by the Coronavirus so please take this into consideration when contact the security team. All calls to the Security team are recorded.

The University has launched a free service to help provide round-the-clock safety reassurance to staff and students.

During the current circumstances it is highly recommended that all staff and students download the SafeZone app when on campus. 

  • Download
    SafeZone, from Critical Arc, is available as an app from the App Store for Apple devices, or from the Google Play Store for Android devices.
  • Register
    Once you have downloaded the app you must register for the University of Kent’s SafeZone service using your University of Kent email address. You will then be redirected to the University’s single sign on page, where you can log in using your usual Kent login and password.
