Sports coaching and courses

Kent Sport works hard to help encourage participation in sport and physical activity at any capacity here at the University of Kent.

The sports development team continue to develop a comprehensive programme of coaching sessions and sporting qualifications aimed at students, staff and Kent Sport members to participate in and develop themselves.

Coach-led sessions

Led by qualified coaches, these sessions are aimed at beginner to improver standard participants and aim to teach them the correct techniques for some of the fundamental skills of the game.

Qualifications

These are governing body courses hosted by Kent Sport which aim to qualify the coaches and match officials of the future. Prices for these courses will vary depending on the qualification and bursaries available. Please contact a member of the sports development team for further details – sportsdevelopment@kent.ac.uk

How to book Book by telephone or at the Sports Centre and Pavilion receptions. Gold and Silver members can book up to seven days in advance, Bronze members up to three days in advance.

This course provides an introduction to the organisation and delivery of safe and enjoyable coaching sessions for players.

The course will introduce practical drills to develop players' technical skills such as shooting, turning with the ball and heading. It is ideally suited to those working with groups of young players. The course is open entry and participants do not need any experience to take part, just an interest in coaching and the motivation to improve their skills and understanding.

FA Basic Referees Course (Football)

This course will provide an introduction to the laws of the game as well as developing the practical skills required to be a football referee. The couse is run over five modules including the completion of six matches as a trainee referee, two of which should be observed by a mentor. The course is a combination of theoretical and practical based learning.
