Reduced format printing on UKC printers

In some circumstances it may be possible to print in reduced format from PCs to printers on the UKC network, thus printing more than one page on an A4 sheet. These brief notes are based on a few experiments but, since I do not use PCs regularly, are far from complete. Suggestions welcome.

Whether reduced format printing is possible seems to depend on the software used, and may depend on the printer. The following instructions relate to printing from Word.

  1. Select File > Print..., or type Ctrl+P. (Don't use the printer icon in the toolbar: it will send the print job immediately, without giving you a chance to alter any settings.)
  2. In the Print window that appears, specify the number of pages to be printed per sheet.
  3. Click on OK.
Another way: after a first stage as above,
  1. In the Print window that appears, click on Properties.
  2. Select the Layout tab, and specify the number of pages to be printed per sheet.
  3. Click on OK.
  4. Click on OK.
The output from these two approaches differs in that the first produces plain pages while the pages produced by the second are separated by dividing rules.

The procedure with software other than Word may differ. With some software there is a software-specific approach corresponding to the first approach above, while with some software the second approach can be used.
