James Woodrow is one of the UK’s leading contemporary classical and electric guitarists.

James Woodrow is a long-standing member of both the Gavin Bryars Ensemble and Icebreaker and performs regularly with other leading ensembles such as Lontano and the London Sinfonietta. During his career he has performed with some of the UK’s most prominent musicians such as Christian Wolff, Michael Nyman and Brian Eno.

James performs regularly as soloist and ensemble player with the London Chamber Symphony, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, BBC Symphony Orchestra, the LSO, The New London Chamber Choir, Music Projects London, Almeida Opera and the BBC Singers. Projects in recent years have included performing Steve Reich’s Electric Counterpoint for The Royal Ballet at Covent Garden and performing and recording a series of new works for Concerto Cologne and the Basel Sinfonietta.

James is a featured solo guitarist in several film scores including Lalo Schifrin’s score for The Bridge Of San Luis Rey and James Horner’s scores for The Mask Of Zorro and For Greater Glory. James also plays jazz and rock, and has contributed guitar to recordings by Sophie Ellis Bexter, Mel C and Cathal Coughlan. His own jazz quartet, CandyTime, has recorded two CDs.
