World-leading research – In the recent Research Excellence Framework, staff research Kent was ranked 3rd in the UK for modern languages and linguistics, consolidating our reputation as ‘the UK’s European University’. The Complete University Guide 2018 ranked all our modern languages departments at Kent 1st in the UK for research quality in their respective subjects (French, German, Iberian Studies (Hispanic Studies) and Italian.
  2. Inspirational teaching – Our teaching puts us at the top of the league tables. Kent was awarded gold, the highest rating, in the UK Government’s Teaching Excellence Framework.
  3. Excellent facilities - As well as our first-class teaching, we are proud of our top of the range facilities, which we employ to help you in your studies. We have an impressive multimedia laboratory with software to help you perfect your pronunciation. The Templeman Library at Kent has extensive resources in French, German, Hispanic Studies and Italian. As well as state-of-the-art academic facilities, the campus has plenty of bars, eateries, The Gulbenkian - an independent cinema and theatre, sports centre and recently re-vamped nightclub.
  4. Superb student experience - At Kent, our student-run Kent Union represents over 20,000 students. We have an active student societies, including Francophone, German, Hispanic and Italian societies aims to encourage the participation of those who are interested in these European countries to engage with the language and culture.
  5. Year abroad - All of our students get the chance to study or work abroad for a year between their 2nd and 3rd year in order to gain valuable experience European culture directly.  We have partner universities all over Europe and worldwide.   6. Supportive student community – Kent is committed to ensuring you make the best out of your time here. There is a dedicated Student Support team and Wellbeing service to provide pastoral support throughout your studies. SECL also provides its dedicated student support team to advise you on a range of matters. We also offer academic and peer mentoring programmes, and provide inclusive learning plans to tailor your academic experience.
  7. Employability - Graduates holding degrees in Languages are among the most employable. Former students of languages at Kent have built careers in translation, journalism, teaching, and finance across the EU. At Kent, there is an active Careers and Employability Service to give guidance and advice. Additionally, SECL runs an employability programme each year tailored for our students, as well as particular employability modules to enable you gain work experience alongside credits for your degree.   8. Fantastic surroundings - Our green and spacious campus overlooks the historic city of Canterbury. The city attracts visitors from far and wide and has many bars, restaurants and shops.
  9. Transport links - Canterbury has great transport links, with three European Capitals – London, Paris, and Brussels - just a short distance away. Closer to home, the Kent coast can be reached in no time at all – the picturesque seaside town of Whitstable is only eight miles away.
