Comparative Literature

Undergraduate studies

The Department of Comparative Literature offers two exciting single honours degree programmes, Comparative Literature BA (Hons) and World Literature BA (Hons), each of which has a specific focus. Comparative Literature is our original degree programme and concentrates primarily on Western and European literature and cultures. The emphasis in our new World Literature programme is more explicitly on non-Western texts and cultures, such as Asian, Arabic, African and Latin American literature, which are studied in conjunction with European sources.

Comparative Literature is available as both a single-honours and a joint-honours programme in conjuction with other departments across the School of European Culture and Languages (SECL), or the Faculty of Humanities. The wide range of programmes and module options offer flexibility and allow you to tailor your studies to suit your individual interests and possible career paths. World Literature is only available as a single-honours programme at the present time. Both degree programmes can be studied with a Year Abroad option.
