Comparative Literature research
The Department of Comparative Literature at Kent prides itself on being a research-intensive community committed to work of the highest quality. Our staff are all engaged in research that crosses national, linguistic, and, in some cases, disciplinary borders. Our activities range from individual research projects to collaborative enterprises. The department enjoys an excellent relationship with other departments within the School of European Culture and Languages (SECL), especially staff in the Department of Modern Languages, as well as with the School of English and the School of Arts.
Comparative Literature was part of Kent's REF2014 submission to Modern Languages and Linguistics that was ranked 3rd in the UK, with 85% of its published research graded 'world-leading' or 'internationally excellent'.
The research undertaken by our staff has attracted major funding awards both from the University of Kent and from external bodies. For information on recent funding awards, see Funding Awards: Modern Languages.
