Travelling, Working and Studying Overseas

All overseas travel, work and study undertaken on behalf of the University, as part of a University teaching programme or organised by the University must be risk assessed.  This requirement is set out in the Travelling, Working and Studying Overseas performance standard.  To aid the risk assessment process a set of forms covering travel to lower risk and higher risk destinations have been designed - see below.  These are pre-filled, but with space to add extra detail where necessary.  Further detailed help in using these is provided in the document Guidance for Overseas Travel and Work risk assessments.

In addition, travellers need to undertake a health risk assessment, details of this can be found here – https://www.kent.ac.uk/safety/oh/Travel/Travel%20Health%20Assessments.html

Activities that are undertaken on overseas trips also need to be risk assessed, but only where the associated risk is above the everyday, activities such as attending conferences or meetings need no separate risk assessment.  Fieldwork will always require a risk assessment.  As a starting place a Fieldwork risk assessment checklist is provided.  Activity risk assessments can be undertaken using the standard University risk assessment form - https://www.kent.ac.uk/safety/hs/pages/Riskassessment/risk-assessment.html
