Discussions have taken place between the Director of Safety, Health and Environment [SHE] and the responsible Executive Group member on this subject.  Considering the overall risk to members of staff (similar to the public generally), it has been decided that a centrally funded investment in defibrillators across the University’s campuses is not appropriate.  However, it is recognised that there are some activities undertaken in specific schools or departments where the risk is higher than the average (e.g. The School of Sport and Exercise Sciences).  Those schools/departments may wish to fund their own.  In those cases the SHE Unit will support and assist in the introduction of defibrillators if requested to do so, but will not undertake any funding, training or maintenance of the defibrillators.
