Ricky is a Postgraduate Researcher in the School of Psychology.
Ricky's research interests are mainly in the field of social psychology. He is interested in knowing why people come to believe in conspiracy theories and whether they are endorsed as a coping strategy to meet unfulfilled psychological needs. Using principles drawn from attachment theory, Ricky is especially interested in knowing whether people with an insecure attachment style endorse conspiracy theories as a way of fulfilling the need to feel secure.
Ricky is currently examining possible mechanisms of the relationship between anxious attachment style and belief in conspiracy theories. Specifically, people with anxious attachment tend to exaggerate the severity of life’s problems and Ricky wants know whether this need to exaggerate also manifests itself into greater belief in conspiracy theories.
