Considering the Intersections between Social Psychology and Public Policy, with Professor Aarti Iyer

On December the 7th we are thrilled to be joined by Professor Aarti Iyer (US Environmental Protection Agency) Social psychology, and public policy.

This session will consider the intersections between social psychology and public policy, focusing on three questions:

(1) How social psychology can be applied to inform policy; (2) What research policy-makers find useful; and (3) What career pathways social psychologists can take to influence policy.

Speaker Biography: Aarti Iyer is Professor of Social Psychology at the University of Sheffield but during the 2021-22 academic year, Aarti was based in Washington, DC as the James Marshall Public Policy Fellow, funded by the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI). As a Legislative Fellow in the U.S. Senate, she used social scientific theory and research to inform the development and implementation of public policy.

Her research investigates the antecedents and consequences of individuals’ challenges to social inequality (via political attitudes and political behaviour) and the impact of organizations’ equality, diversity, and inclusion (ED&I) policies.
