Conspiracy Theories in the 2016 American Presidential Election
Dr Joseph Uscinski, University of Miami

All American elections feature conspiracy theories, but the current election has put them center stage. The remaining major candidates have engaged in an inordinate amount of conspiracy theorizing, including dredging up decades old conspiracy theories such as those surrounding the Kennedy assassination. Why have unsubstantiated ideas become so prominent in current election discourse? Who is most likely to engage in conspiracy theorizing and why? What effect will conspiracy theories have on the election outcome?
