Energy materials

Fast global warming has encouraged a prompt response by scientists to find alternative energy resources, which are more efficient and produce less CO2 emission than current solutions. Within this framework a combination of experimental research and computational studies are carried out on batteries and fuel cells. Experimental research includes the synthesis and characterization of new materials for Li-ion batteries; moreover, novel catalysts are exploited in a variety of energy related reactions, such as Water-Gas-Shift reaction to produce hydrogen. Computational studies include Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations to understand how the properties of the metal/oxide interface affect the anode reactions in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs).
