Recognition for Scientists Becky Parker and Bob Green
Former senior lecturer in Physics at the University of Kent, Becky Parker, has been awarded an MBE for her services to education. She will also be among those receiving honorary degrees from the University of Kent at the degree ceremonies being held at Canterbury Cathedral in July 2008. Becky, who was also formerly Head of Education at the Institute of Physics, is now Head of Physics at the Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys, and Director of the Langton Star Centre. She plays a key role in enhancing astronomy and science education for the school's students and as a result, one in every 200 students studying physics at university has come from the Simon Langton. Becky Parker has also served on numerous science committees and, last year, became an Academic Visitor at Imperial College London.
Bob Green, a Home Office Forensic Scientist who teaches our Stage 1 Forensic students and has been a supporter of our Forensic programme since its inception, was appointed an OBE last week.
The School of Physical Sciences is delighted that Becky and Bob have been awarded this recognition.
