The discussion will take place on 11 December.

Dr Albena Azmanova of Kent’s Brussels School of International Studies will be in virtual conversation via Zoom with renowned economists Dr James K. Galbraith and Marshall Auerback on the topic of her book ‘Capitalism on Edge’ on Friday 11 December 2020 (16:00 – 17:00 CET).

This online webinar, organised by the Center for the Study of Global Human Movement at Cambridge University, will examine the changing shape of globalisation and the chances for progressive social and economic reforms after the pandemic.

Dr Azmanova’s book: ‘Capitalism on Edge: How Fighting Precarity Can Achieve Radical Change Without Crisis or Utopia has been the subject of much interest in the global economics policy field, having already received praise from former US Secretary of Labor Robert Reich.

James K. Galbraith is professor at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs and at the Department of Government, University of Texas at Austin and directs the University of Texas Inequality Project. He is a member of the executive committee of the World Economics Association and is one of America’s most prominent left economists, a prolific author and active public intellectual.

On the book, Dr Galbraith said: ‘This is the big-think book of our time. It is a rare successful effort to define the next iteration of capitalism – precarity capitalism – as the successor to neoliberalism.’

Marshall Auerback is Research Associate at the Levy Economics Institute of Bard College and fellow of Economists for Peace and Security. He is a policy analysist and commentator and a regular contributor to Economy for All, a project of the Independent Media Institute.
