Free talk on importance of young girls studying STEMM subjects

Victoria Roots, a former student who now works at BAE Systems, will deliver the fourth Jennison Lecture, sponsored by The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on Wednesday 1 November.

Victoria (pictured below), who was named one of the Top 50 Women in Engineering by The Telegraph, will give a talk entitled ‘Women in Engineering – 9% is not enough! What we can all do to improve it’ explaining why more girls must be encouraged to consider a career in Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine and Mathematics (STEMM).

The event is free to attend and will run from 18.00 – 19.00 in the Jennison Lecture Theatre at the University’s Canterbury campus. Those interested in attending are asked to register online.

Victoria graduated from the School of Engineering and Digital Arts in 2009 with a 1st class BEng (Hons) in Electronics and Communications Engineering before joining the Graduate Program at BAE Systems in Kent in 2012 as a Graduate Systems Engineer. She is now a Senior Systems Engineer for the firm.
